‘Premium’ Galaxy S5 rumors just won’t die, bring up the rumored Project F

Samsung Logo 2

Before the Samsung Galaxy S5 announcement, there were several rumors that claimed that Samsung was prepping two new devices: one would be a standard Galaxy S5 with a 1080p display and the other would be a more premium model with a WQHD display and better specs. Some reports even claimed that the premium unit would have a metal body. However, the official launch at Samsung Unpacked dashed all hope of a premium Galaxy S5. Or did it?

The rumors surrounding this mysterious high-end Samsung device just won’t die. Usually I’d think that it’s all wishful thinking, but the mention of the Galaxy F line has me interested. The latest rumors about this device say that it won’t just be another Galaxy S5 – which would have made no sense in the first place – but that it will be the long-rumored Galaxy F. We’ve heard about this handset quite a bit as a luxury model in the Galaxy lineup.

The latest rumors claim that the premium Galaxy S5 will feature a WQHD display at 2560×1440, a new Exynos processor, metal body and optical image stabilization for its camera (oh my). It’ll reportedly be a limited, higher-end model released for spec lovers like us. It sounds plausible (our own Dustin thought that Samsung would pull something like during yesterday’s podcast) and exciting. The device might debut as soon as as two months from now. Are you excited about the possibility of a premium Galaxy S5 or is this all just a broken dream manifested as a rumor?

I feel torn about stuff like this. For the tech enthusiasts, as long as it is announced before the S5 goes on sale, I feel like it would be a major burn for people who buy an S5 and then a Galaxy F line comes out. But at the same time it would be awesome to have a surprise like this. At the very least it would be nice to have some leaks so we have a good idea if it is real and worth waiting for (assuming it is released after the S5).

I’m not going to get an S5 though, but man it would be sweet to see a true jump from the S4 to this.

Galaxy F wouldn’t be surprising to me at all. We have heard and known of this rumor since November 2013.

If it happens great NOBODY DOES an entire new product line better than Samsung.

After all look what happened the last time SAMSUNG created a new product line now we have 7 inch smartphones.

it’s definitely the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Gear 3 for me come October 2014.

When it comes to android nothing else matters but Samsung period.

Sounds like a wishful fantasy from disappointed Samsung fanboys.

Personally, I could care less about an all metal body. What’s really important to be is a removable battery, and a SD card slot. Yes, the One feels nice on hand, but I just wasn’t impressed. After buying nothing but HTC phones since WinMo, the HTC Evo LTE was my last HTC phone, for now anyway. I didn’t see the One as much of an upgrade over the Evo LTE, so the Note 2 became my next PHONE. That was my FIRST Android phone that wasn’t HTC, and first phone in 5 or 6 years that wasn’t HTC!! I loved the Note 2,so I was in line at my local store to buy the Note 3 on launch day. The Note 4 will be my next phone unless HTC or LG really impress me, which I don’t expect, unfortunately. Make the Note 4 out of whatever material they like, as long as it feels decent in hand, has a large display, removable battery, SD card slot, etc, I’ll be buying it on launch day as well.

I agree. To me plastic isn’t all that bad. I would much rather have the easy to replace plastic back then a metal design that once it is scratched that is that unless you pay $$ to get it replaced. I would be more worried about touchwiz being refined. The only real thing I would like is OIS.

Why wouldn’t the s5 be their “premium”….”flagship”. Samsung is getting goofy.

  • Carlos

S5 presentation was episode I. Why shouldn’t we expect episode II?

  • nhely

I think the rumor is true..Sammy is just waiting for the others to show their 2014 flagships then showing the S5 F thus getting more customers eliminating competition..just my opinion though

Interesting.. But still a little disappointed in their Unpacked event… I hope maybe they we just pulling our legs

I can’t say I’d be surprised to see Samsung pull something like this and release a premium metallic S5 or Galaxy F or whatever they want to call it. But….as plausible as it sounds, it would also be kinda stupid to risk cannibalizing sales of their darling S5. Who knows, strange things do happen. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

If S5 will cost less than S4 (when S4 shipped, say <500€) and F series will truly be a premium product (800€ +), then the cannibalization is much less likely. Esp if there is a 2-3 month lag between the releases.

      • Chris

Valid point, I didn’t think about that.

This one of their Galaxy phones for this year.

I think the reason why the rumours wont die is nothing more than the need of dreaming of something which the S5 isnt. The S5 is a dissapointment and you only need to reverse the letter and number to understand why (5S).

    • vasra

These “rumours” (more like carrier pre-knowledge) existed way before S5 was even announced.

F series has been in the pipeline or at least drawing board.

Whether it will ship this year, next year or some other time, remains to be seen.

If it has non-encrypted / unlocked bootloader, TAKE MY MONEY, please. Now :)
