List of Android 4.4.3 improvements leaks out

android443nexus5aam

We first got wind of the Android 4.4.3 update earlier this week thanks to a rumor that claimed that the software is currently undergoing testing and that it includes a fix for a battery draining camera bug. Now more details of the impending update have surfaced, including a fairly lengthy list of other bug fixes.

An Android Police source claims to have a test build of Android 4.4.3 running on a Nexus 5, and according to this tipster, the update is focused on maintenance rather than introducing new features. The list of fixes that the update currently includes is as follows:

  • Frequent data connection dropout fix
  • mm-qcamera-daemon crash and optimization fixes
  • Camera focus in regular and HDR modes fixes
  • Power Manager display wakelock fix
  • Multiple Bluetooth fixes
  • Fix for a random reboot
  • App shortcuts sometimes got removed from launcher after update
  • USB debugging security fix
  • App shortcuts security fix
  • Wi-Fi auto-connect fix
  • Other camera fixes
  • MMS, Email/Exchange, Calendar, People/Dialer/Contacts, DSP, IPv6, VPN fixes
  • Stuck in activation screen fix
  • Missed call LED fix
  • Subtitle fixes
  • Data usage graph fix
  • Internet telephony fix
  • FCC compliance fix
  • Miscellaneous fixes

That’s a pretty lengthy list of tweaks, no? It’s been a couple of months since Google first pushed Android 4.4.2 to its Nexus devices, but it looks like the lengthy wait for Android 4.4.3 will be worth it thanks to the inclusion of all of these enhancements. Of course, we’ll have to wait until the public rollout begins before we know for sure what goodies the update will bring, but so far it’s shaping up to be a pretty nice bug fixer.

    FINALLY!!

    • sere83

Yeah really was about time, annoying though that the stock camera app design is still so crap on stock 4.4.2. Regardless of the shit design it still has issues with focussing and shutter response, hope this fixes those issues anyway.

For nearly 5 years ( since htc desire)I have always hated the cameras on Android phones, both the official and others camera app, but now is there actually a camera app that I like! The brand new “a better camera”.

Its the first camera app that actually use the full screen, and that make it more easy to use. Notice that is a high-end camera with build in HDR and more advanced funktions. Its advanced but easy to understand and use (use slide in)

    Quick question.

    I’m a LG G2 (4.4.2) owner

My Wifi drops out like 30 times a day (Home wifi, never had problems with previous phones, Galaxy, Xperia en Nexus)

Will this update help also non Nexus 5 user?
(If the G2 gets this update. LG and android updates don’t match really well :p )

    • Burnd

Yeah good point, and it’s not only about LG… TouchWiz, Sense, Xperia, etc., they all trusted on 4.4.2 to optimalize that version of Android on their new flagships. And now when buyers will receive these new phones the coming weeks (for exemple the M8 I ordered), its software will already be outdated. :/

    • Michael McHale

When did LG release 4.4.2 for G2 ?

      • Asker

A week ago in my country (The Netherlands). I think almost every country had the update. I’m using a unbranderd one.

I you dont receive a OTA (Over the air) update than try to update trough the LG computer/mac software. Than you will update the phone manually. (that’s what I did)

Ontopic: I hope that the 4.4.3 update will come out soon, and i hope even more that LG will update their phones as quick as possible. Satisfied with my G2 but the wifi ‘bug’ is driving me crazy.

Actually android is way more stable then apple and has been since gingerbread. It just that iPhone users are way behind the times and they like to believe that android is still in 2oo8

Welcome to the culture of beta of which Google is a progenitor and Android is the first major platform from Google that really shows this buckling at the seams (compared to web apps where one gets a pass by hitting page refresh). 4.4.3 is what most companies (especially hardware) would have released as 4.4 not pushing known broken product out to the the wild. This is at least my developer view. If you want to know where real fragmentation comes from this is how it happens. Let’s just hope that all devices running some form of Kitkat are bumped to 4.4.3 ASAP. Statistically speaking there were a very high amount of new bugs / issues added to the issue Android tracker over 4.3 and particularly 4.4 time periods. Can’t wait to have a potentially stable version of Kitkat.

    • SGB101

Kit kat is rock solid, and the ‘beta’ push was not invented by Google, far from it, at least each version of Android goes from strenght to strenght, have you used ios7? Talk about buggy!

Xp ends support next week after about 15years of beta testing, it’s still won’t and full of holes!

I’ve heard some stupid stuff around this corner of the Internet, but your comment above is way up there.

Running stock (moto g) at moment and barring the camera, it’s one of the best devices I’ve owned. Before this I’ve been high end purchaser, usually having to root and rom cm’x’, because of bloated skins, and hardware slowdown. The down side to roaming is bugs, maybe that is the issue you have.

Stock seems solid, I’d go as far to say the most stable os I’ve ever used on any platform.

2.3 was solid also, 4.0 was a dog, but was fixed by 4.3, and now it’s well polished. But shares the Windows flaw of hogging as much ram as you give it! This moto g, 4.4.3)seems to handle ram allocation much more than the note2 running both cm10.2 (4.3) and cm11 running 4.4 with 2gb ram.

        @SGB101
        >Kit kat is rock solid

Uh huh…. And how do you qualify that?

        >I’ve heard some stupid stuff around this corner of the Internet, but your comment above is way up there.

Clearly you are just a consumer and a punter.

        @redraider133
        >Don’t be such a fanboy and at least know what you are talking about at first.

Uh, except I have been doing low level Android development since the G1 hit my hands in Oct ’08 and have used every single Android generation and OS release, so I actually have credibility when it comes to mentioning that KitKat is buggy as shit balls. I could care less about Apple and iOS.

        —–

I’m pretty much done with posting on A&M. It was waaaaaay better when it first started with much higher quality commenters, but it’s just filled with punters at this point.

        • redraider133

          Here ya go. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2014/03/28/apple-android-crittercism-crash/

But you should know this since you have so much knowledge as you claim with developing for android.

          • Mike Leahy

Wow, your total lack of connecting the dots is “amazing”. I don’t give a crap about iOS or Apple, so posting an article comparing Android to iOS app crashes is pointless and has nothing to do with Kitkat OS quality. If it’s not clear to you yet I’m on team Android.

App crashes also has nothing to do with the _fact_ that Google continues to push out unstable / half finished OS releases with _many_ bugs when releases should slow down and have thorough QA applied. Clear and simple The 4.4 release IE KitKat is considerably buggy with half finished new features and many regressions. I look forward to 4.4.3 on as many devices as possible as I state in my original comment. You are defending mediocrity and at that doing a poor job.

    • redraider133

In that case, 7.1 is what companies would have pushed as 7.0 and yet apple made people wait nearly have a year for updates to fix bugs that were much worse than what android has in 4.4. Not to mention it was shown that android is still more stable than IOS is with the amount of app crashes compared to IOS. Don’t be such a fanboy and at least know what you are talking about at first.

  • Wil

…great so now we get to wait for the carriers to re-release 4.4.x and wait again for root…awesome…(sigh). I wish i had purchased the international or GPE version of my phone. I thought I might want some of the OEM features and that it would be easier to root and ROM my phone little did I know that AT&T was going to lock down all of their bootloaders. NEVER AGAIN!
    PS I know, 1st world problems…but still…

  • tomen8r

Camera is such a waste on Android phones. You could put a 1000 Mega pixel cam on phone but pics are only as good as the lenses. And the lenses suck.

    • SGB101

I was just watching Leo Laport on twit.tv, playing with the HTC one (M8), playing with the camera, and it works far better than I ever expected.

Ever since the ‘Lytro like’ rumors, I knew if true they could be onto something great, or at least hoped, but never thought it would be as good as it has turned out, especially as it’s gen one.

I vowed never to go back to HTC after the one x, and it’s battery, got the note2, and now the Moto G (Love it), but the camera is weak, inside, and am so tempted to grab that one.

I think I’ll at least hold off a month, wait for the price to drop a little, and the offers to start. Hopefully my M8 fever will of settled by then.

      • steve99

Screw the m8. The one plus one looks great and at 360-380 bucks, you can’t go wrong. A 13 MP camera. A 801 snapdragon, a 5.5 inch 1080p screen. Easy root and you can install customers roms without losing warranty.

  • QDogg

These are great fixes, but I like the Android updates that are ENHANCEMENTS!

My cell bands have been freezing my phone every time it switches from LTE to h band or vice versa. I have been thinking about switching from my nexus 5 to Samsung. Horrible thought.

  • Karthik

Hope that Motorola releases 4.4.3 for the Indian customers of moto g!

  • mcmobile

would anyone know if the 4.4.3 update would fix the sim card not inserted error. As i have had this error since i updated to 4.4.2, my mobile (sgs4) is almost useless at the moment. its driving me mad

  • dukk

I have the problem with my new nexus 5 .. And its LTE connection problem . suddenly the bars will empty .. and i have no signal on my phone .. this problem got a lot of my friends and there are still no solution ..

  • ajay

There is also problem with calling. Sometimes when someone calls on nexus 5 I even don’t get any notification but person at other side can hear the ringing. My boss thinks that I ignore him by not picking his call. When again someone calls I can’t listen other person in between the call. Reboot solves the problem but this happens very frequently. Does any one having same issues?
Google please fix it on priority as the main purpose of phone is call only though it it is smart or not
