The new Moto X will not be available on the Sprint network

Moto X Moto Maker Palatte

While the Moto X had some exclusive aspects to its launch in 2013, eventually it became available for all of the major wireless networks. The safe bet before the announcement of the new Moto X this year would have been the same thing would be the case this time around, but it looks like that might not be the case after all.

According to the official Motorola Mobility Twitter account, replying to a question from a Twitter user regarding a launch date for the new Moto X for Sprint, that won’t be happening. The tweet is pretty straightforward in its message: “The new Moto X won’t be available on the Sprint network.” So, just like that, any hopes that Sprint subscribers would be able to get their hands on the new hero device from Motorola have been dashed.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean it will always be the case. It does mean, though, for right now it looks like there aren’t any plans to bring the device to the Now Network. And, as it stands, the only pair of carriers to announce support for the new handset are AT&T and Verizon. Technically speaking, though, the 4G LTE-connectivity will work on T-Mobile as well in the GSM unlocked variant.

Are you a Sprint customer that was hoping to get a new Moto X?

Hmm, available for Verizon so not a CDMA problem. Maybe a problem with Sprint’s franken-network, as they’re running more incompatible technologies than anyone. Or maybe they had poor sales of the previous gen or they couldn’t mark it up enough to make a profit.

However you slice it, though, I think this may turn out to be the first real-world indication of the fall of Sprint from 3rd to 4th place (maybe more). I have nothing to back this up but a strong hunch. Only time will tell.

See you Sprint – I’m out!

Ditto! I just decided to switch my family to AT&T next month as soon as I can get the Note 4. Here in KC metro Sprint is a joke, we’re sick of it. I’m so excited!!! (yes, I’m willing to pay a little more for usable data speeds)

I’m a Sprint customer who was excitedly waiting for the New Moto X….now I’m a Sprint customer contemplating leaving…. Doesn’t help that my HTC One M7 has suddenly decided not to take calls from GSM phones and the land lines my bosses use to reach me….. And no one in Sprints repair division can tell me why…..

Was, WAS, a sprint customer but not anymore cause of this.

I too am a Sprint customer. Not THAT unhappy with them, but 4g seems to be getting WORSE around me. Was very much looking forward to the new Moto X….Probably going to change carriers. Been with them for like 10 years.

I will definitely be looking at all my options, most will involve leaving Sprint. Not adequately addressing concerns on this forum is just bad business.

I did a lot of research and decided on the new Moto X because of its features and functionality. Extremely disappointed with Sprint that they will not be offering it! Not a fan.

Months ago I broke my 1st gen. MOTO X and have been using a crappy old phone in anticipation of the new MOTO X release. Learning this now, I’m finally going to cave to my girlfriend who has wanted a joint plan for some time and make the switch. Sorry Sprint. It’s been real, it’s been fun, but it hasn’t been real fun.

Like some of the other comments, I was waiting to replace a non-functioning phone with the new gen Moto X. I am very disappointed that Sprint is not carrying it. Would like some information from Sprint on their intentions so I can make an informed decision on whether or not to stay in.
