After weeks of leaks the Galaxy S6 active for AT&T is official and will be available in stores and online this Friday June 12.
There are no real surprises in store regarding the device itself:
- 5.1-inch QHD Super AMOLED Display
- 16MP rear-facing camera
- 5MP front-facing camera
- Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor
- 32GB ROM
- 3GB RAM
- 3500mAh battery with support for wireless and fast charging
Naturally, the durability of the Galaxy S6 active is the big selling point, and the phone touts IP68 dustproof and water resistance. Samsung specifically claims that it can survive in up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The phone should also be shock-resistant for falls of up to 4 feet onto a flat surface.
For such a rugged device, AT&T went pretty tame with the first ad for the phone. We’re not sure this is the tone Samsung had in mind for the S6 active given that even the regular S6 was shown capturing images of jumping off waterfalls.
There Activity Zone appears to be one of the few other nods to the outdoor lifestyle suggested by the design of the S6 active. Activity Zone features weather, a barometer, S Health display, compass, flashlight and stopwatch, as well as access to your music and current activity.
While the ruggedness has top billing, the almost 1000mAh of additional battery versus the Galaxy S6 is another potential selling point for those concerned with the battery life of the now-sealed Galaxy S6.
The S6 active is available in three colors — Camo White, Camo Blue or Gray — starting this Friday June 12, and it will be $0 down on AT&T Next for $23.17 a month with 30 payments on Next 24, $28.96 a month at 24 payments on Next 18 or $34.75 a month at 20 payments on Next 12.
