HTC One M9 and others already use the Snapdragon 810 v2.1

OnePlus has been making a pretty big deal of its use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor. The whole point of the v2.1 was to get rid of the previous thermal management issues that Qualcomm claims never existed. Yeah, it’s an utter mess of a situation with a lot of conflicting info. Luckily, it doesn’t affect customers.

But it looks like OnePlus has little to brag about. According to HTC sensor global online communications manager Jeff Gordon, all manufacturers that are using the Snapdragon 810 are using the new v2.1 chip. The HTC One M9 definitely uses the v2.1. So OnePlus has nothing to brag about, it’s just marketing to escape the thermal management issues and nothing more.

This controversy continues, though it’s not something you should worry about. It seems like all Snapdragon 810 devices use the newest version of the processor with proper thermal management, so you shouldn’t have any issues. But you can always grab the popcorn and watch the OEMs and Qualcomm duke it out!
