UPDATE: Verizon has confirmed that the new logo is real. The company says:
“As our customers and our business evolve, so must we. The reveal of our new brand is more than just a new look. It’s a chance to further everyone’s understanding of who Verizon is and where we are going. After 15 years, the new visual identity marks the beginning of the next chapter to distinguish Verizon in the minds of consumers and signals our revitalized purpose of delivering the promise of the digital world — simply, reliably and in a way that consumers want.”
ORIGINAL: Verizon’s big red check mark is a pretty well-known brand in the US, but if a new leak is to be believed, Big Red may be planning to totally change its logo.
According to AdAge, Verizon today launched a new logo internally ahead of a public launch that’s scheduled for tomorrow, September 3. You can see both the old and new logos below. The new logo has a refreshed font and ditches the red Z that’s present in the old logo. Perhaps most notable is the tweaked red check, which has changed from a huge check above the Verizon name to a small, superscript-style check at the end of the name.
This alleged new Verizon logo is a big change from the old logo, much like Google’s logo change that happened yesterday. Verizon’s had its old logo for quite a while, and so it wouldn’t surprise us if the company felt that it’s time for a new, more modern logo.
What do you think of this purported new Verizon logo?
