Today Verizon Wireless announced an additional 59 markets where it plans to roll out 4G LTE coverage by the end of the year. Sprint and T-Mobile won’t be the only carriers with a “4G” network this holidays, as Verizon is also expected to roll-out 4G LTE to 38 markets by the end of the year. Verizon’s LTE netwok should offer the fastest real world performance with download speeds of 5-12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2-5 Mbps.

“4G speeds” are coming to 185 million people this year thanks to T-Mobile and early results show their new 3G network is actually faster than Sprint’s 4G WiMAX. Best of all, T-Mobile’s 21 Mbps HSPA+ network is backwards compatible so all existing HSPA 7.2 devices will see a boost from the increased bandwidth.
