64GB HTC One Exclusive to AT&T?

Posted Mar 30, 2013 at 5:51 pm in Threads > Smartphones & Tablets

So, I just read an article at Android Central that states that the 64GB HTC One is exclusive to AT&T. They had an AT&T promo which clearly states in green that the 64GB version is exclusive. I am wondering if HTC is serious about that because a lot of people will want the option of the 64GB and not having it on Sprint or T-Mobile will not bode well for them. I find it really stupid that they would do something like this on a phone that’s supposed to the their flagship and one that is supposed to bring them out of their slump.

What do you guys think about this exclusivity and how might it affect your decision to buy the One?

I believe the 32 GB HTC One retails for $650 and T-Mo wants to sell their version for $579 to match their prices for the GSIV and iPhone 5.

I’ve never had a phone with more than 16GB so 32GB will be just fine. A 64GB Nexus 10 would be nice though.

I wasn’t interested in the 64gb version but the fact that they did this is stupid and for a second got me a little upset. They are trying to rebound and build their brand name back and they are still allowing themselves to be bullied by carriers.

Does anyone need 64GB? What are you storing on your phone? Seems like 32GB is more than plenty for anything I can think of.

i live in the bay area, and have used a mix of buses and trains for years now. my phone has become my day to day media device (most of my music, podcasts) so storage is a seller for me, particularly when the handset doesn’t offer sd card expandability.

i’m sure this is different for people who drive daily though..

    • Dr.Carpy

Yes. As applications get bigger, space becomes more necessary. I really believe that not allowing for a micro SD slot, hinders peripheral apps to be loaded to swappable cards that allow for one to have several cards with several games music photos, etc.

Personally, I think that 32GB is good enough for me but there are others that want a 64GB simply because you can store more things on it and I think that giving people that option is a good thing but limiting it to one carrier isn’t smart business.

If you are downloading a lot of games and apps, you can easily reach that 32GB limit, especially since, that’s not actually how much space you have. Also, some people might want their music, photos, files, etc to be right on their phone and not necessarily in the cloud. Games are going to get bigger and bigger and they will continue to take up a lot of spaces.

I think they should allow them on all carriers. yes 32gb is plenty for most, but just like making variants for carriers you are limiting the amount of users who potentially may have bought your product, but if they need more than 32gb and aren’t on att they may be forced to look at other phone options. Just put the same phone on every carrier like the iphone and s4

    • jamal adam

My thoughts exactly. If they are trying to go the distance and have one flagship for all carriers, it only makes sense to have all storage sizes on all carriers. If I was someone who needed 64GB, I would be upset and I don’t think HTC has room to be playing favorites at this point because exclusivity didn’t work for them. Hopefully, this is only a limited time exclusive otherwise there will be many who want the 64GB version but instead might go for something like the Galaxy S4 or iPhone. There are still lessons to learned.

Even if it is a limited exclusivity, most normal consumers when they go in to buy a phone they buy one that day, they aren’t going to wait x amount of time for exclusivity to end and most wouldn’t even know that it could potentially come later on. I am rooting for HTC but carrier exclusives is what got them in this position in the first place.

        • jamal adam

This clearly shows that they haven’t yet fully cleaned up their system of exclusivity. It’s as if they go forward 3 steps only to take 1 step back. I also really want them to excel and do well but as I’ve said before, they are their own worst enemy.
