Battle of the launchers Nova vs Apex(opinions needed)

I’ve been patiently waiting for my S2 to get the highly anticipated ics update, but it looks like the ics build from sammy will retain the look of tw gingerbread. The problem is that I have grown tired of the tw launcher. I’ve been looking for the ics launcher that comes the closest to replicating the look and feel of stock ics without having to flash.

Which launcher would you recommend and why?

Why are you opposed to flashing? Are you not concerned that running a secondary launch on top of TW will slow down the phone?

I’ve been running adw(?) launcher and I haven’t noticed a hit in performance. I’m not opposed to flashing, but I keep reading about the roms not being as stable as the stock rom dunno how accurate that is.

Stability of ROMing your phone depends entirely on the ROM you choose. Try a few out, find the one that works best for what you use your phone for.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Sure there are some duds out there but there are also some ULTRA fantastic roms out there that will do the phone justice!

TBH AOKP and CM9 feel much more stable then stock samsung ICS rom, and much faster and nicer

What model of S2 do you have? Maybe i can help recommend a stable rom for you.

Honestly, I bounce between. They’re both equally fantastic, and the one thing that Apex offered that Nova didn’t was just rectified in Nova’s latest update. I honestly just go with whatever the ROM I’m using comes with, which is always one of the two. Try both out, see which one is snappier for you, and runs best on your phone.

Thanks, I would definitely try it out, but I’m still running on gb.

Are you getting the same performance from both launchers?

      • http://www.DollarTechCheck.com Theolonious

Pretty much identical on my Galaxy Nexus, but YMMV on your phone. So far, I have found the ROM as being much more important to overall performance compared to the launcher, which is very different from how Gingerbread and below worked.

Apex has a ton of features compared to Nova and it is quite stable and smooth. But it seems Nova may have slightly better performance. So it depends: Features vs. Performance.

Honestly, I’ve found both to be near identical in both regards. They have different features, but an equal amount.

@Bpear96: Thanks, I’ll read up on that as son as I get home. =)

Some time ago I had same problem.
I installed both on my touchpad and should admit that there was no too much difference , so you can choose any of this two and you will not make a mistake. I have choosed Apex because it seems that it’s developing faster then Nova.

I’ve been using ADW for a long time but I’m not really satisfied. I’m planning to buy the full Nova because of the latest update, I’ll do it when I’ll have time to set it up :)

If you don’t want to pay for a launcher then I recommend Apex which has Gesture actions which is a must for me and not offered on Nova’s free version.

BTW, somebody who has Nova Launcher prime, can you create new categories in the drawer? Because at moment in Apex you can customise them, but can’t have more than 3

I cannot move away from Go Launcher. They keep on improving! Today’s update was rocking! :D
ROM: Task’s AOKP for SGH-i777 [xda]

honestly apex launcher is best i have used all the launchers but apex is best in all way battery friendly best best

I’ve probably used every launcher out there and it’s always between Apex and Nova for me. Nova is snappier, I think and looks nicer than Apex does when you use a large grid (7 columns x 7 rows is what I’m currently on). Also, the Nova “unread” count on the icons such as gmail look much nicer than the Apex ones. However, the “Sneak peak” at all your homescreens looks better on Apex.

In the end, though, they’re pretty comparable and highly customizable to your tastes. I’d try out both since they each have free versions. Let us know which one you end up going with!
