Display Size

i moved from an iphone to the gs3 about 7 mos ago. among other things like UI personalization and usability, display size was a big selling point. i hear that the gs4 is moving closer still to the 5in mark and the next note may be in excess of 6in.

does anyone else feel like oems might be taking this too far? the iphone felt too small at 3.5 & 4 inches, and for me 4.5 – 4.8 is the sweet spot. i know this is subjective, but just wondering what others opinion is on this. will there be anything under the 5inch diagonal a year from now when i upgrade again or will all the premium handsets be built for people with giant hands.

4.8 was to big for me, so i got the note2, as we just have to accept, it’s a computer with a phone in, not a phone with a comp in.

Once you accept that, you also accept 2 hand typing. It’s not for giant hands its for two hands.

Love my note, 6″may be getting to the limits of my pockets tho.

I agree with OP. I’ve never had a phone larger than 4.3′ but I have used the GS3 and the screen size is very nice at 4.8″.

I’ve been holding out for the GS4 and that rumor about it being 5″ in size almost made me think twice about it. But I don’t think it will be too much of a drastic change from the GS3 size.

Screen size doesn’t matter as much to me as total device size. If OEMs went with a RAZR M style edge-to-edge design, they could pack a 5-inch screen on a device the size of my Galaxy Nexus. As long as I can use my device one-handed, I’m fine, and that has more to do with the overall size of the body of the phone, not ust the size of the display.

More than 5 in definitely too big for me. I don’t want to carry something that big with me at all times. Definition is more important to me than screen size. If I want to use something bigger I just use a tablet. A phone should be smaller in my opinion. Smart phone or not it should be a good size to use as a phone above all else.

I’ve got a 4.3″ on my SGS2 and before the SGS3 came out, I thought that would be a perfect size for me. Like others have said, I would be perfectly fine with the 4.8″ on the SGS3. I think that the small bump up to a 5″ on the SGS4 won’t be too much, but I think that will be the limit for me. I’ve played with the Note 2 and it just seems huge. I guess so long as I can fit it in my pocket and use it one handed for the things I do the most I would be fine with something bigger than 5″. I do think it would be a shame if OEMs completely moved away from the 4″ range entirely though
