Facebook: Finally Native (Breaking)

Posted Dec 13, 2012 at 3:05 pm in Threads > Apps

Today, Facebook announced on its blog that the native version of their Android app is finally going to be available. We all know how poor the existing version was, so hopefully this will bring a huge improvement.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I am not yet able to see the new version (Thunderbolt on Gingerbread). Anyone else having issues seeing it?
EDIT2: Having trouble? I was able to get the app to update by going to the Play store and go an “install” the app on a phone you already have the app installed – it will force the update.

They should have done this ~3 years ago.

But yeah, this should work MUCH better than the app they had before.

I am sure we can expect to hate this one too until they iron out the kinks.

    FINALLY!

Their FB app has been BRUTAL. It’s good to see dividends being paid from FB offering their employees a free switch to Android.

I was ready to leave my typical “meh…. no big deal” comment but this seems like a winner after about 10 minutes of playing with it. A lot snappier on the crappy signal I get at work, picture handling from friends seems better..

You’ve been able to get it? I don’t yet see the ability to update it. Disclaimer: Gingerbread device. I can’t see the app version on the Play Store because it says “version varies based on device”.

Would be cool if I stil had a fb lol

Well I would need to get me an account in the first place ;)

lol, I keep my facebook account going for my job.

Facebook seems to be less effective than it used to be.

It is definitely much smoother and what it should have been awhile ago. Finally usable for a change.

Yup love it . this is so fast specially photos load so fast and swiping for switching between chats and notifications.
The application feels snappier too, glad they ditched the HTML app

If this is only supporting ICS/JB, I’m going to be pretty upset. The Facebook app is the worst, and being stuck on Gingerbread doesn’t help.

I have hated the FB app so much I generally just try out 3rd party apps such as Hootsuite to get me by until I can get to a computer.

The new version is SO much better then the old crap we used to have. Extremely refreshing, this is how it should have been from the beginning.

UPDATE: Droid X on GB 2.3. It is awesome! I can stalk so much quicker now!

Seems to be a fairly decent improvement for once, certainly a lot quicker, more stable and the design tweaks are a hugh improvement. It’s been a long time coming.
