    Doesn’t work on either. I just googled it. Dianne hackborn seems to be the one writing all the geeky android smackdowns as of late.

Yeah, dwelling services are definitely need to be stopped. Whenever I see something like that – instant uninstall. I don’t even care if it was a useful app.
