I think it would be very interesting and informative to know how people came to be Android fans and owners of Android devices. As a community, I think the stories of how we each came to embrace the Android ecosystem is one worth sharing.
Personally, I’ve always been a fan of Android since the rumors of the G1 first came out back in 2008. I never liked the iPhone much and didn’t think much of it but then when the G1 was released, I was excited and eager to see what it was like. Saddly, I never got one because my uncle, who happens to pay for the bills didn’t want me using a smartphone and especially having a data plan. So, all I could do was look at it from a distance and keep up with what was happening in terms of updates on software, new hardware, etc.
Each time a new device was released, I was excited and happy to see Android succeed and grow bigger and better. It wasn’t until this year, in late July that I finally got a taste of Android for myself, in the form of the Nexus 7. After Google I/O 2012, I was excited for the Nexus 7 and wanted one to use for school and for my own enjoyment and so I waited a bit and finally bought it in late July and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. I’ve helped my friends learn how to use Android, showed them tricks and other cool things but I always felt like I was missing out but now I feel at home with the Nexus 7 and I love it so much. Now my next endeavor will be getting me a Nexus 4 and embracing the smartphone wholeheartedly.
To build a stronger community on Android and Me, I thought this would be a great way to start discussions and just to see the many different experiences and perspectives on how we came to love Android.
