How do you guys feel about Instagram’s new privacy policy??

I’m not sure how to feel about it. I use Facebook avidly so I dont see why it bothers me so much but it does. What do you guys think?

It was terrible, but they’ve changed it in the mean time. Sometimes complaining on the Internet works.

Just for the principle of it, I will be canceling my account. Having the right to opt out of something is a must.

Honestly it does not really bother me. The pictures I take aren’t anything that if they were to be sold would bother me. I could see if people had pictures of their children but for me I enjoy being able to share my photos with a bunch of friends( rather than on fb) and if this is what they have to do to keep the service free then so be it. I understand people leaving instagram over this and that is perfectly acceptable as well. If you don’t like what they are doing, you have the right to delete your account.

  How would you feel if some non-profit organization, in an effort to do good, started a campaign against child sexual abuse and they purchased a photo of your face to represent the stereotypical guy doing this? And then they made this a HUGE national campaign to help fight such a thing?
  
  Would you be happy having your face representing child sexual abuse across the nation? Can you imagine how this would affect your chances of employment when you interviewed for a job? You would have absolutely no recourse to prevent this from happening.
  
  Just one extreme example of what’s possible (and likely similar to what will happen to at least 1 person). No thanks!

I have no problem with it because I have never used it. Not a judgement on anyone else, I just LOATHE pictures someone is trying to show me of something they did and I can’t even tell what they did because the filters are too crazy and all the detail of the picture disappears.

Then again, I don’t tweet or update anything to facebook so I guess I’m not the target market. (No, I’m not a crotchety 65 year old man)

I am personally not a fan of those kinds of sites/apps so I never signed up.
The reason I am not a fan is that any site where you can upload pics for free to share you know at done point they will try and make ninety off of those pics

  darn auto correct….
  they will try and make money off of your pics and will take your copyright for said pic for free (and claim the money it costs for hosting that pic/pics as”fair” compensation)

I read a few blurbs that Instagram is NOT selling anyone’s photos. I don’t know how true it is but you can search the net as various sources even Cnet.com had an article on it. I do know that if it proves true, I have such a small account that no one will miss it or me if I leave.

What really bugs me is what TheVerge and Gizmodo tried/tries to make out of it. They are reporting about in a way that can only lead to the thinking all of the users are just dumb zombies. Just because a service is free a user does NOT have to tolerate everything!

i really like instagram… i do photography as a hobby and it was another way to get creative and get noticed for it. The idea of someone else profiting off my creativity with out me know bothers the crap out of me!

I had an account, and while I know facebook does something similar I’m not as invested in Instagram with what only 4 photos on it. So I just deleted my entire account no reason to resign back up.

Well, I’m on the edge about cancelling both Instagram and Facebook accounts, on one hand their privacy policies keep changing and it ticks me off, and facebook is just a major time suck, but on the other hand it’s a way for me to connect to a bunch of people I probably wouldnt otherwise be connected with. And I like how simple instagram is to use..but yeah, if their terms actually allowed them to use my photos however the heck they wanted, then buh bye!
