[Poll] Do You Use Chrome, the Stock Browser or Something Else on Your Phone as Your Default Browser?

Posted Dec 16, 2012 at 4:44 pm in Threads > Opinions

I personally use Chrome; but I’ve noticed that others (my partner included) prefer the stock browser.

At first I thought that this was due to lack of knowledge about Chrome, but I realized that it was a conscious decision.

That said which of the following is the case with you?

A – Chrome set as Default
B – Stock Browser set as Default
C – Neither set as Default; Select from prompt on a case-by-case basis
D – Other Browser set as Default

  • shlevy

    Dolphin Browser

    • Thomas Biard

I use Dolphin as well (on my Android)

I prefer Chrome, but it is not available for my phone. For all my friends and family, when I setup their phones/tablet, I get Chrome for them for sure.

      • Daniel Hakimi

        You’re still pre-ICS? =(

  • redraider133

I use chrome, works for me and is pretty smooth

  • Chris Lewis

I like chrome and how you can see the pages on your other devices.

  • gh0st665

A- Chrome set as default on both my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 7. Both sync bookmarks and tabs.

  • TheVoodoo

I really like the fling-style navigation between tabs and tab management in Chrome.

    • http://pixelswim.com Steve Heinrich

This is such a useful feature. Working with tabs in Chrome is great.

  • aranea

On nexii 4 and 10 stock and default browser is chrome and I’m using that one. I like the integration between other computers I use such as the ability to open a page that’s open on one of the computers.

    • TheVoodoo

      You are correct. Sorry.

  • iSpanish

A — Chrome set as Default
    smooth and easy.

  • dino13

Mainly using chrome, after that the stock browser and sometimes firefox, but I’m not happy with firefox as it does not render all sites correctly.

    • TheVoodoo

I agree. Firefox has been underwhelming since it started on Android.

However, it is my browser of choice on PCs, since I find Firebug (a Web developer extension) far more user-friendly than Chrome’s built-in development tools.

      • dino13

Firebug on Firefox is great. On Chrome its called even Lite so you know what youre getting. For programming with GWT I also use Firefox, as it is much faster then Chrome.

        • TheVoodoo

Agreed. And Firebug is so much more user-friendly to use than Chrome or IE development tools. Unfortunately though, not a week goes by without the need for debugging something in IE, which demands the use of its development tools.

  • VerticalCobra

Stock browser on Tasks AOKP Jellybean ROM

  • Dc99999969

Chrome is by far the best

  • http://pixelswim.com Steve Heinrich

I use Chrome as my default. It renders pages most accurately and is smooth. Plus frankly it looks nicer than other browsers, in my opinion.

  • awesomellamas57

    A- Chrome
Tabs beats any other functionality stock browser offers

  • killrgummibear

    d-Dolphin does everything i need

  • dbcher

c for me….but I mainly use Firefox, some chrome and some built in browser

  • nicotinemind

Useing Dolphin and happy with it.

  • mernen

Stock browser, but would absolutely switch to Chrome if I could. Tried Dolphin and some others, didn’t really like any of them.

Firefox is technically nice, but the poor treatment it gets from WebKit-centric websites is underwhelming. As a web dev, I’m doing my part, though…

  • celo175

I use the stock on my phone…wish I could use chrome on my tablet though

  • wickedme

    A. I really like what Chrome has to offer, with the interaction with my pc and visa versa. Plus, I like tabs and how you can close a page real easy.

  • Stig03

Stock browser is much better faster! And better!

  • rond

Dolphin on my phone and Firefox with Flash enabled on my N10. I haven’t selected a default because I often use the stock browser on the phone and chrome on the N10.

  • josha14025

using firefox now, everytime i tried chrome my phone froze.

  • tanman888

    A – Chrome as default.
Is there a quick scroll shortcut to the top or bottom?
Would be handy on especially long threads.

  • pmrich

I use the stock browser, never really gave the others a chance but i’ll try ‘em.

    • TheVoodoo

You should definitely give Chrome a try. It is phenomenal.

  • Ezy03

    stock browser

  • TheStig

    stock for me too!

  • Fiasko

I use chrome, but it does feel buggy while playing video. It pretty much is the default on the Nexus 4

  • Ezy03

    stock browser is the best

  • lou2cool88

  • Brandon Thomas

    Both chrome and dolphin

  • ryan003

Chrome set as default, Dolphin as backup

  • theonlymerlin

Chrome, same as tablet and PC

  • Charlong666

Chrome, all day everyday on all my devices.

  • kinkate18nic

    Dophin….and i like it

  • sonicdeathmunky

Chrome set as default. Super useful with syncing bookmarks and current websites with my tablet, home and office computers.
I have Dolphin Browser installed as a backup :)

  • cduran1983

I use this settings C — Neither set as Default; Select from prompt on a case-by-case basis.
In the list are Firefox, Aurora, Naked Browser, Chrome, and Default. I always switching between Chrome and Naked Browser.

  • pol biswas

    Both stock and dolphin.

  • thr970

Chrome, love the desktop integration. Same bookmarks on all devices as long as signed in. Had used Dolphin before Chrome was available

  • antartis13

    Dolphin is pretty sweet…

  • TheVoodoo

I’m not sure if I ever do this with the stock browsers before switching to Chrome, but I also like that I can leave 50, 60, 80 or even more tabs open for days or weeks, with no problem.

  • digvijaya07

    A) Chrome Forever n ever n ever …

  • dacatalyst41

Do Chrome users ever miss Flash?

    • SGB101

I do, but then I found X scope to satisfy my flash needs!

  • gavinb

    A: chrome

Initially it was a bit buggy but I’m really impressed after the last few updates.

  • pranavno9

Boat Mini or Default browser works pretty decent in HTC Wildfire S

  • isa007

I use Chrome as default. Over the last months/years I’ve also tested Firefox, Stock and Opera Mini. Chrome is my favourite browser. I like the handling of tabs though I dont use the sync. The design is also like it should be : clean. A very cool feature is the zoom that appears when you tap on two links situated next to each other. A real core feature in my opinion.

    • SGB101

One feature chrome does lack, that dolphin has, it the ‘return to the top button’. It would help a lot on sites like this, where you are following threads down for a while, then have to swipe about ten ties to return to the beginning.

Small grip, but overall chrome is my default.

  • SGB101

Chrome is default, Dolphin is back for last pass use,

and since 4.1> i have X Scope pro for my flash sites like Project Free TV. great browser and worth the £1.92 i paid for it.

  • klcow92

Chrome as default, thought its a bit laggy sometimes

  • Guitaraholic

    Chrome for me :)

Although on my tablet I tend to switch between Firefox and Chrome ( because chrome is the only browser that seems to support the citrix app .ica files properly )

  • kelltrash14

Lots of chrome, lots of stock. Occasional fallbacks to firefox, dolphin, skyfire

I’d like to use chrome all the time, waiting on it to get faster…

I run into browser compatibility issues constantly it seems and have to try another.

  • ndorrough

Chrome on all devices. I switch over to the stock browser to check compatibility on mobile devices for websites I work on, however.

  • uknowme

I use the stock browser on my Evo LTE. It is integrated with my Chrome bookmarks on my computer so I don’t have any issues.

  • MisterLee

Chrome all day… i like how it sincs with Chrome on my pc. Remembers all my stuffs

  • surg3d

I’m a big fan of Chrome but Quick ICS is my go-to for now. For some reason Chrome gets glitchy on my phone… :(

  • Shawn Flanagan

    A) Chrome.

I love the syncing of tabs between all my devices.

  • jamal adam

Chrome is the way to go for me and it’s perfect since I use Chrome on my laptop and can sync with it. It’s the perfect browser for me.

  • mattplaybass

    D) Used Dolphin Browser traditionally, but I’m trying the new Firefox. Chrome is amazingly fast, but I utilize LastPass for passwords and Dolphin and Firefox let me have the add-ons.

  • http://about.me/LuisOTorres taz88ny

Chrome, because is sync with my personal laptop and my work PC.

  • mckeed

A- chrome, use it on my desktop at home and work. sync is awesome, why use anything else.

  • securifirm

  • MC_Android

It seems like chrome is the popular browser and with its easy ability to unify Internet browsing for all your devices, it easy to see why… However I am going to say that speed and performance-wise, it is not better than the stock browser. Having a phone with 2gb of ram might not be obvious but when you have half of that (s2) it is so obvious it becomes obstructive. The ability to play flash is still a plus considering how many sites are slow to adopting html 5

  • Bain

A – Chrome which happens to be the stock browser.

  • MrPaulAR

A – Chrome. It’s just too easy when everything is synced cross platforms!

  • amIT29

I use chrome as well stock browser…why??
Chrome I like the vertical tiling of tabs and offline sync For all open tabs what idont like is … inability of pageup pagedown ..big chore go up to article after reading all comment.

I use stock browser just for one feature sav.ing paging for offline reading…i hvnt found how to do the same in chrome yet if at All

  • sachin_goral

    Opera mobile and stock

    • sachin_goral

But they consume a lot of data.

  • yankeesusa

I use chrome as much as I can since it links to my laptop browser. Then I use the stock browser for mobile sites. And then I use skyfire if I want to run a full site and also run any videos. I’m thinking of trying dolphin again just to see if it really is faster than all these other browsers. I wish there was a review on mobile browsers and comparison between them.

  • gmaninvan

I use chrome, I like the syncing abilities. My only complaint would be that it doesn’t match the look and feel of other stock apps. Creates a degree of inconsistency expected from the old google, not the new. It would be nice if they updated it to match the holo guidelines.

  • Shazam

Dolphin HD, had to get old version so I can still run flash.

    • Shazam

Do any of the other browsers support flash?

  • Sambomojo

Chrome mostly, but sometimes Dolphin Beta. Am I missing something here, but wtf is with Chrome tab switching on Nexus 7? I want to be able to see all open tabs and swipe to close them, just like on the phone.

  • LadyDi

D – Boat Browser for now.

  • ldouglas64

Chrome on both my phone and tablet. it seems to work better on both than the stock browser.

  • christiaangombert

chrome has some great features (like devices shared tabs) but the interface is to slow for a singlecore phone. i’m back to the stock browser wich is must lighter for the cpu of my phone.

    • TheVoodoo

That’s a valid point of view that I hadn’t considered, as I have only used Chrome on rather fast devices since it became available.

  • Daniel Hakimi

    A. People keep telling me that Chrome is awful, but I haven’t seen any problems, love the interface, and love that I can get tabs from my desktop whenever I feel like it.

  • Jorge Eslava

Chrome has come a long way and is not full of bugs like it used to be. But I only use Chrome for incognito browsing and stock for regular browsing.

  • Monsunami

I use the dolphin browser. Pretty reliable and has all the plugins that I need.

  • Samar

“D” for Dolphin. Have had great experience with this one. Real nice.

    • TheVoodoo

  • pliu.2014

Chrome because then i can link together the phone and the computer

  • MrMrMan

I don’t have a default set. I them all for different things. But I tend to use chrome the most.

  • TheVoodoo

For a while I didn’t have a default set either, but it got really cumbersome, so I saved Chrome as default; every now and then if Chrome gives me trouble, I explicitly open another browser and try to use them instead.

    • TheVoodoo

I just noticed that I do the same with a lot of other apps i.e. not select a default for URLs for file types such as those that lead to the browser and Google+, or the browser and the Play Store.

  • mikemccalmon

boat browser mini all the way baby!

  • Mattheo

    i really like Dolphin , because :

-full screen mode (i am using the full potential of 4.2 inch AMOLED on my sgs2)
-gesture (this is really useful for things like openig new tab, switching between tabs,or closing tabs )

    and yep thats about it

    • azswift

The full screen mode of the stock browser is why I didn’t make Chrome the default on my 10″ tablet.

  • jonstle

Chrome and Dolphin – Depending on my mood.

  • kevjj10

Chrome has so far been my favorite on all my devices

  • Trean

  • masterpfa

I have three browsers available Chrome, original Stock (as it was included in the custom ROM I am running) and Naked Browser.

Had Flash been supported I personally would run Chrome all the time.

  • nsnsmj

B — Stock Browser set as Default

It’s super fast, and it has the awesome quick controls. The thing that makes no sense in regards to Chrome’s sometimes sluggish performance is that Google is the creator/developer of both. It really makes no sense, Thankfully, Google has already said mobile Chrome is about to be up to par with desktop Chrome early in 2013.

  • Broseph Stalin

D – I have Dolphin as my default, but I use Chrome for the tab syncing functionality from time to time on my phone.

A – On my tablet, Chrome is my default. It seems to run a bit smoother than on my phone. Still have stock and Dolphin installed, though.

  • romy134

Stock, for some reason Chrome acts up on my HTC one X

  • qwertyman44

dolphin, as my phone doesn’t support chrome

  • azswift

Chrome is my default on Galaxy SIII.

  • jamal adam

With the release of Chrome beta, it will now be my first choice and the stable version will be second. I want to try out the new features that are added to chrome beta rather than wait for it to arrive on the stable version just like I do with my laptop, which I use Chrome dev with.

  • Stoxystocks

I’m using the chrome beta and tbh it has improved from chrome a lot I feel it is really more fluid with additions to it I recommend any one on Android 4.0.0 + to download it and give it a try

  • Slith

    Chrome Beta
