starting threads to enter contests good or bad

I think it is a terrible idea to make it a requirement to start threads to enter contests. I can see a bunch of useless threads getting started.

Haha! You enter the contest. Nice try!

Should admit that it’s original idеа for contest tread )

I think it’s a great idea, it gives the active users in the community a more likely chance to win. It seems like most contest winners don’t visit or support sites on a frequent basis, they mainly just enter because they have a chance to win. (Or hear about it from a friend.)

It’s nice to see that Android and Me cares about the active members in their community.

The whole idea behind making threads cost points is to reduce the number of lame, useless threads. A thread cost 20 points, so you need 20 comments to earn them back. If you keep posting crappy threads, then eventually you lose your right to create news ones.

But so far today, this contest has worked. I’ve seen some great threads created and the activity is way up.

LOL great thread name. I agree — the idea isn’t a terribly great one.

I think its good, I keep coming back to these threads and not seeing much going on, but now the front page is completely different every time I’ve visited this afternoon :)

It has its pros and cons. I think there will indeed be a lot of bad threads, but with a lot of people joining up, I think there will also be a more vibrant community in the long run.
