Thoughts on SwiftKey Flow Beta??

Posted Dec 06, 2012 at 11:06 am in Threads > Apps

Just downloaded swiftkey flow this morning and must say while it’s still in Beta, I am impressed. I’ve used Swype for years now and didn’t think I would like the change but the interface is much smoother on my G-Nex. Also love the fact that you can swipe over the space bar and move right on to the next word. Really impressive so far!

What’s everyone else’s thoughts?

The few issues I have found so far are:
1) SwiftKey Flow does not work in browsers or Gmail. Only issue is to tap the keyboard.
2) Slide to delete option doesn’t work for some reason.

Where do you get the SwiftKey Flow Beta?
I can’t seem to find it in the PlayStore

Other than a bit of a snafu downloading languages this morning, I am impressed as well.

zeep. same problem here. taking forever to download languages. as it does it keeps trying to force close on me….

    • Jeffdwisc

Reboot worked for me to fix this issue

downloading the languages definitely took awhile but once you get through it, you’re golden. Haven’t had the force close issue

  • Brandon Thomas

yea, i rebooted and tried again, that’s how i got it to work too.

Just installed this a few hours ago. I have to say that so far its very smooth. I also like the swipe across the spacebar and continue feature. And as others stated I had a really hard time getting the language downloads to complete. Don’t know if it was lagging out due to demand or if they have some connection issues of another sort.

Is needing to tap the keyboard in the browser and Gmail a product of it being in beta or something else?

    • epps720

I’m assuming/hoping so. Like I said I’ve used Swype for a long time now and don’t have this issue so I’m just assuming it’s some type of oversight and not an issue of it just being a gesture type keyboard.

I am having some issues with it recognizing words though, for example for some reason I can’t swipe the word “three” makes no sense to me. The one feature that is on Swype that I miss here is the ability to scroll through other word options and not just the 3 they provide you.

I am new to using swype style apps, this is going to be a very interesting transition. Though the features seem worth using, also so much easier to type one handed if needed.

  • Jeffdwisc

It might be just me, but I am finding that it is not picking up my intended word as well as swipe did. I have it set on fast typer mode. Does that affect the flow word choice?

I’ve been using the flow beta all this week but one thing does bother me – the Theme…. I had the same issue with Swype when they changed to the blue / yellow theme…. it just doesnt fit with the rest of Holo – even the Holo theme…. essentially I’d love to keep the default looking keyboard or would LOVE someone to copy the design of the keyboard from WebOS

    it doesnt work somwetimes ,i.e
1.the flow feature does not work sometimes ..i have to tap keys to type..and
2.using space for flow doesnt work as intended because sometimes it predicts wrong words and then it is confused and the whole line doesnt show up :(

this is still a beta though and hopefully things will improve ,looks good as always tho :)

    • epps720

Sandy, I’ve had the same issues you have. # 2, is really annoying. You type this whole long sentence, it looks like it’s working perfectly then it just drops off. Then I have to test it again 2 or 3 more times thinking it’s me until I finally give up. Definitely assuming this is a Beta issue. As far as the wrong word usage, hoping it will get to learn how I type and that will get corrected somewhat but it’s always going to have an issue to some degree

Swiftkey always good, the flow part…can’t stand to use it yet.

  • Silver Fang

It certainly makes input a snap. However, I do find a few faults. If I try to type a four-letter-word that starts with s and ends with t, it puts in “sit” instead. If I try to type “spit”, it changes it to “spot” absolutely cannot flow the word “byte” and “polite” comes out as “pole” or “pile”.

Thinking I may have to switch back to Swype. Swiftkey Flow just misses too many words and when you go back to fix it, it doesn’t give you an extensive enough of a list to choose from. I’ll check it out again once some kinks get worked out but it’s back to Swype for me

Hi, As you all start to use Flow more (or stop using it due to issues), can you share your thoughts on how you’ve liked/disliked after getting more practice with the app?

I’m trying to compile a list from the greater community to submit to SwiftKey so they can improve their product. I’m using a thread to compile our thoughts:

You may leave a comment here (supporting the OP) or over in my summary thread linked above. I’ll find them either way – but will only be able to edit the summary thread with updated feedback from the community.
