Welcome to the new ‘Threads’ section of Android and Me!

Posted Mar 26, 2012 at 9:14 pm in Threads > News

Hey guys, just a quick note to get the ball rolling on some thread testing. We’ll have a lot more info coming soon, this is just a sample post to make sure everything is working.

As you noticed on the New Thread page, making a thread will cost you points. Each new comment earns points back though, so in the end a popular thread could skyrocket you to And Me stardom.

Leave any questions you’ve got in this thread, then start making your own to help me test things.

Can’t wait for this to take off!

I’ve been working on it for a few months now, I’m so stoked to finally see it live!

    One more point for you!

I think this is going to change the face of Android and Me. It’s like a forum, but without all the rules and regulations. OK, I guess there will still be rules, but it’s a great way for the community to share ideas and interact with each other.

It will be interesting to see how the soft launch goes, before we really start promoting it. Given the tools that are provided, it’s kind of like a micro blogging platform. It will be interesting to see what content gets created.

    I like it!

Test it out and start your own thread if you got something to share.

I like the overall A&M point system. Cost to put a thread up, gain if it’s popular. It has the ability to really keep the forum relavent, instead of rife with ‘reddit’ type jibberish.

will there be a cap on a minimum score (like say 10 or 15) to create a thread? And please tell me guests will not be able to create threads. :)

    • http://clarklab.net Clark Wimberly

Yep, aside from costing 20 points, you’ll need 100 points to even get started.

  • jsweetser2

ok nice. how many community members currently have 100 score?

is there any algorithms you’ve developed yet to project how quickly scores could trend up, ergo trending over time how many threads could be posted per day as time goes on?

    • http://clarklab.net Clark Wimberly

Right now only about 500 users have over 100 points. No projection algorithms yet, just some basic guesses.

      • jsweetser2

do you have a target of how many users you want to have 100 score? It could blow out of control quickly and create a lake effect. I only ask because I heard you may look to move some heavy traffic’d threads to the front page.

One more question, is the 20 point cost in effect for the beta? will i blow my measly 54 score out of the water by posting something with a smaller beta community to give it points back?

Cool, glad to see this feature… it’s stuff like this that sets A&M apart from other tech blogs.

Glad you like it so far. Wait till you see what is already in dev and coming next month…

Is there any way to see all the thread subcategories?
